Visibility, a shared voice, and connecting with others are at the heart of any good protest effort, but they are just the beginning, just the first step.
Take Action
If you are feeling overwhelmed with where to start, microactivism is an easy way to take small steps that add up. Here are some things you can do to keep up the momentum.
- Join a local org! We recommend Kudzu Coalition and sister organizations like Shelby Pride.
- Give to and support local Mutual Aid groups! We suggest Cleveland County Mutual Aid.
- SHOP LOCAL!
- Foothills Farmer’s Market is great for all your local veggies, fruits, bread, protein, honey, cookies, candles and more!
- Read [banned books!]! Knowledge is power!
- Skip Amazon and buy books from Box Turtle Books!
- Register to vote!
- And if you are registered, CHECK YOUR REGISTRATION!There have been many efforts to suppress and purge voter rolls, so check, and then in a month or two, check again!
- Download the 5Calls app and make calling your legislators part of your daily routine. It’s easy, I swear.
- Sign Up to fill the community fridge! Volunteers are always needed!
- Volunteer and become a member of Mountain True
- Volunteer with the Broad Riverkeepers – keep our local waters clean!
- Volunteer with the Broad River Community Market!Help feed local families.
- Attend a School Board Meeting.
- Attend a County Commissioner’s Meeting
